Bunting is up, menus created. We are so looking forward to #cambridgeindependentsweek which starts this Thursday 4th till Sunday 7th July.

We are doing a special deal for a main, a drink and a dessert for £10 from 8:30am - 4pm. It can be a big breakfast, a brunch, lunch or an afternoon tea. You can even get one deal to share with a friend. There are lots of other local retailers worth a visit as all are doing special promotions to celebrate the uniqueness of our city.

It is organised by the lovely Cambridge Bid.  It coincide with the national campaign Independents Day UK, which is a not-for-profit campaign that exists to support & promote independent retail businesses across the UK all year round, but with an annual focus on July 4th: Independents’ Day itself. The purpose of the campaign is to enlarge local independent businesses, residents and visitors in celebrating entrepreneurial spirit of the growing independent business community of Cambridge.

We hope you can support the campaign by visiting many local retailers during this period. Throughout the independents’ week, you will be able to take advantage of a range of special offers, competitions, discounts, in store events and much more. Look out for the bunting and posters displayed across the city. And don’t forget to use your Love Cambridge Gift card if you have one.

Click here to see who are participating in this campaign and plan your few days explore the city like a tourist!

July Issue of Cambridge Edition has just published a fantastic write-up about this event.

Chef Jamie Mountford has rallied the troops once again in aid of the charity Something To Look Forward To.  This will be the second time we have been involved in producing fabulous food in their support, this time with a few new faces and a new venue -  The Green Man in Granchester.

The theme of the event is foraging, thanks to Chef Steve Thompson who is an expert of foraging and gin making.

Recently, Nicola and I spent a productive day with Steve who showed us around Granchester Meadows.  We foraged for plants and learnt how to differentiate the edible from the inedible ones.  We were amazed with the amount of the plants that are readily available from the surroundings.

This time we will be cooking 6 courses in the evening paired with 6 homemade gins.  Paola of Romano's has already taste tested her aubergine dish and is very confident the dish will be 'Peng!" (in her words).  Chef Steve is calmly planning his snacks and canapes on top of working with all the gins with his very own recipes. I will be busying myself with the fish course using my absolute favourite cooking method of steaming all my delicious ingredients. Chef Jamie will be doing an exciting pork dish. There are always enthusiastic ones on the committee - not surprised in the slightest to see that they already have a full basket of foraged ingredients for their dishes. Nicola stayed behind, on the foraging day, to sweep through the meadow with beautiful blossoms.  We are still 3 weeks away but are already seeing our pastry chef Nicola working on her blossoms

She has been working really hard as these pictures were taken at 2am!

Aren't they beautiful?

Just wondering what dessert we will have in the evening ....and a picture is worth a thousand words!

Thanks to all our sponsors and also to Cambridge 105 for inviting us to have a chat about this event with lovely Steffi Callister.

Once available, you can listen to the podcast here.

Today it marks a milestone as our menu was finally finalised with beautiful foraged gins.  We are honestly very excited to see it become more real.

There is still a lot of work to be done in preparation for the charity evening, but we really can't wait to see some of you there, to share the food, to support this local charity, and to enjoy the live music by Gary Winter, Kayleigh Gare Music and Josh Oram.

Come and join us on Easter Monday 22nd April 2019 for a well considered gin pairing with amazing botonicals with each course. Tickets (£75 per head) are on sale now via Eventbrite.

Hope to see many of you there!

Meggy xx
